Mold Threatens Homes Affected by Hurricane Sandy

In an article published in the Staten Island Advance News, Rep. Michael Grimm (R/Staten Island/Brooklyn) said:  “A lot of people are, what's called, gutting the inside of their house down to the studs. They're taking off the sheet rock that was wet. They're taking out their insulation, and they're somewhat drying out the inside of their home. That is not enough."

Much of the salty sea water that inundated homes was also mixed with sewage, diesel fuel and other contaminants. Residents eager to get back to normal should resist the urge to hurry the process along, officials warned.

If mold spores are left and damp wooden walls are covered up with insulation and sheet rock, the dark, wet environment -- when heat is again added -- creates the perfect breeding ground for mold.

Mold growing unabated could fill spaces in between walls and cause health problems, cost thousands of dollars to remediate months later after residents signed off on their insurance claims and, in the worst-case scenario, lead to condemnation.

Edward R Close, PhD, and Professional Engineer, has warned that FEMA does not and cannot provide sufficient information for residents to know whether it is safe to inhabit an environment that has been inundated with water. Close says there is a safe and effective option that is little understood today. This option is organic, eco-friendly, and provides the best remediation option because it prevents and eliminates spores in as little as 24 hours, works for both airborne and spores on surfaces, and it offers the only long-term residual effects Close has found in studies conducted over the past 10 years. Plus it smells good, a cinnamon and cloves smell that most find pleasing.

Mold-caused health problems typically show up as respiratory responses, initially. However, according to a number of MDs who are skilled in the science, mold may also be linked to Fibromyalgia, Epstein Barr, and a host of other auto-immune diseases, as well as some forms of impairment that lead to memory loss, panic, dependency, and brain chemistry alterations. Their work suggests a direct causal link and a high correlation between mold exposure and certain immune responses. See the works of Dr. Ritchie Shoemaker, Dr. James Schaller, Dr. Marvin Sponaugle, and Dr. Joe Brewer. There may be other doctors with training and experience in assisting those impacted by mold exposure. The author is familiar with the works of these four and they are in agreement that mold is a causative agent in these illnesses.

If you have been impacted by mold, there is good news. There are options for cleaning up your environment and for removing mold from your body. You have options. It is not a death sentence and you don’t have to spend thousands of dollars using the old remediation options that are limited in their ability and have many negative side effects. You can use the state of the art and less expensive option: Essential Oils. Essential Oils are what Ed Close, PhD, discovered will prevent and eliminate mold spores in buildings and it has long been know that essential oils are a great option for healing of body and mind. So, you can use oils to clean your home and your body, and save a lot of money over the cost of standard remediation and anti-fungals. They cost less and they are better for you.

Wishing you Joy and Vibrant Health!
