I’m Using Thieves Oil - Why Do I Still Have Mold?

I’m Using Thieves Oil - Why Do I Still Have Mold?

Okay! You’ve done everything you thought you had to do and you still have mold? How can that be?

We know the Young Living ThievesTM oil and the ThievesTM Household Cleaner will eliminate mold better than anything else available. We now have over 10 years of data to prove it. So, when someone contacts us and says this, we know that we have to ask them some questions. What questions? These:
  1. How do you know you have a mold problem?
  2. What confirmed that it was mold and not something else?
  3. Did you have samples taken before you diffused?
  4. Did you have samples taken after you diffused?
  5. What exactly are you doing?
  6. What diffuser are you using?
  7. You say you are using Thieves oil, is it from Young Living?
  8. Precisely how and where are you diffusing?
  9. How long is the diffuser running uninterruptedly? What are the settings on the Diffuser?
  10. How long is the diffuser running overall in a 24-hour period?
  11. How many days (24 hours periods) did you diffuse?
  12. Are there gaps when the diffuser was out of oil or not working?
  13. How big is the room where you are diffusing?
  14. How much of the 15 ml bottle of Young Living ThievesTM oil did you use during the time you were diffusing?
  15. Did you diffuse to eliminate mold in your air handling system?
  16. Are you confusing stain with mold?
  17. Did you have visible mold?
  18. How did you use the Young Living Thieves Household Cleaner?
When we look at the data along with the answers to these questions, we realize there are only 2 possible explanations for a person thinking, believing or knowing they still have a mold problem.
  1. They either didn’t follow the Close Protocol, or
  2. They didn’t identify and address all the sources of mold.
Most often people don’t use the right diffuser, or don't use the right oil, or they don’t diffuse enough oil for a sufficient amount of time based on the amount of mold present. But based on the data we have collected for 10 years and the answers we have received to the questions posed above, the only possible reasons anyone could have mold are they didn't follow the Close Protocol, or there was a source they missed. This has proven true every time.

We have been shocked by the number of people who have called us and said they are using Thieves oil, but when we questioned them and asked them to get the bottle, look at the label, and tell us exactly whose name was on the label, it is not Young Living’s ThievesTM Oil. If you aren’t using Young Living’s ThievesTM Oil, then there is no proof that the Close Protocol will work - and you are not following the Close Protocol.

We used oils for our personal health from many companies for 4 years before we found Young Living, none of them worked the way Young Living’s do. None of them.

So, you might think all oils are the same. They come from plants. They are basically the same plant, they should work the same. Unfortunately there are numerous things beginning with the seed that is used, the soil it is grown in, whether pesticides and herbicides were used in the fields where it was grown, the exact time the plant materials are harvested, the specific amount of time between when the plant material is cut and when it is distilled, and the very specific way in which it is distilled including the cooker, the temperature, the pressure, and even the water, the amount of steam, as well as whether it is the first distillation, the second, third or fourth distillation, or a composite distillation.

All of these things go into making a good oil - a quality oil - and all of them contribute to the cost of that oil. Then after the oil has been distilled, there is the question of whether oils from another plant - which will always have different properties - were added to extend the quantity of that oil? Or worse, were synthetics added to the oil? Was anything removed from that oil? Some companies add or remove certain constituents to/from an oil to help make it smell and taste exactly the same way every time. All of these things make a difference in the oil that comes in that little bottle you receive.

Just one example:  It has been well-known for many years now that more than 10 times the amount of True Lavender (Lavendula angustifolia) is sold out of France than is produced there each year. How do they do that?  By adding chemical synthetics (especially Linalyl Acetate) and different types of lavender oils to what is then bottled and sold by re-sellers as Pure Lavender. The different types of lavender (including Lavandin and Spike Lavender) are less costly to produce and also produce more oil per acre of plant material.

Re-sellers may not know or may not care about the difference. So what is the difference?

Lavendula angustifolia will heal any burn and that has been proven over and over again. However, if you add Lavandin or Spike Lavender to Lavendula angustifolia, then you cannot heal a burn. Instead it will make the burn worse. You can still label that oil Pure Lavender or True Lavender, so long as it contains Lavendula angustifolia.  This information is widely available.

Adding similar species to an oil to lower production cost and increase profits is commonly practiced by most companies in the essential oil industry. But not Young Living. In fact, less than 1% of the essential oils produced worldwide are of sufficient quality to meet Young Living's demanding standards.

Young Living’s Seed-to-Seal process guarantees the purity of their oils in a way no other Company in North America does. We know this is true by our own experience and by the results. And I realize some people think this is all just hype, however, those of you who have tried oils from other companies and then tried Young Living’s know it isn’t. Results don't lie.

We are also shocked by the number of people who tell us they are using a diffuser that utilizes water! No one should use a diffuser that uses water if you are addressing mold in a building. This absolutely will not work, and we have the data to prove it. But you don’t have to be a genius to realize that if water feeds mold – and it absolutely does - that you don’t want to use a diffuser that diffuses 90% or more water and only 10-12 drops of oils ThievesTM oil. That isn’t going to work and you will never get rid of mold doing that. Instead, use a Cold-Air Diffuser and be sure to check out our:  2015 DIFFUSER RECOMMENDATIONS .

Some people think they can diffuse a 5 ml bottle of Young Living ThievesTM oil, and that is sufficient. That will NOT work either. You have to diffuse a 15 ml bottle of Young Living ThievesTM Oil in a 24-hour period. You have to follow the Close Protocol as it is written and currently available on our website, if you want to see the results. Here is the link again:  2015 DIFFUSER RECOMMENDATIONS

Be sure you read through the entire page for all the details on the current Close Protocol for Eliminating Mold in Buildings.

Using the Young Living ThievesTM Oil, ThievesTM Household Cleaner, and the Close Protocol for Preventing and Eliminating Mold has worked every time for the past 10 years. So far, we haven’t found one building we could not clean up using the Close Protocol for Eliminating Mold. That's the only reason we share this with you, because it works.

And the beautiful thing is that the people working and living in those spaces where we have used Young Living products tell us they absolutely love the Young Living ThievesTM Oil and ThievesTM Household Cleaner. The first people who ever used the Close Protocol continue to use these great Young Living products for all of their mold clean up and mold-related problems even today. And they have incorporated these products as a part of their regular maintenance cleaning of all kinds.

That is the real stamp of approval!

  2. Laura at especialoils --- My very Sincere Apologies. I inadvertently deleted your comment. It was showing up twice. Here it is again. Really appreciate you asking here on the blog.

Thanks for a well laid out article. I was wondering about a 40 foot sailboat, which has some wood. The cabin can be closed off, diffused & cleaned with straight Thieves Cleaner as recommended, but for wiping down the rest of the boat, which isn't real bad, it would be cost-prohibitive to use straight Thieves Cleaner for such a large boat, could it be mixed with vinegar? Thanks, I'll be meeting with the owner after I hear back from you. It's a ministry that takes people sailing that have cancer, disabilities etc, so I want to help them stretch their dollars. I think they have 2 other large sailboats, as well. Not sure if they'll want to try to clean the sails...if you have any input on that...I just ran into the owner on a walk, he said he wants to be take as good of care of his special passengers as possible & thought the Thieves protocol was great. Help!

Thank you so much for your comments and questions here! Appreciate you taking the time.

      Inside the Cabin...
Diffuse with Young Living's Thieves oil for a minimum of 24 hours using the TheraPro Premium Diffuser inside the cabin. Then clean with the Thieves Household Cleaner undiluted. Then diffuse for another 24 hours with Thieves oil.

      Exterior Spaces -
We have always suggested that you dilute Young Living's Thieves Household Cleaner 1 part cleaner to 4 parts water for exterior spaces that are going to be rained on and be exposed to water on a regular basis. This will work great for the exterior of a boat and can be used for regular maintenance cleaning, weekly, quarterly or annually, as they prefer. And yes, you can use Vinegar with the Thieves Household Cleaner. We do that for various things in our home, including windows, floors and stainless steel appliances. And it is always suggested that you test spray an inconspicuous spot on anything you are cleaning with the Thieves Household Cleaner for safety purposes. Some boats are made with fiberglass and covered with petroleum based sealants. So testing a spot is always a good idea.

      Sails...
We do not have any experience with Sails, so cannot offer any advise there. However, if the sails are made of cotton or other non-synthetic fiber, then they can probably be cleaned in the Thieves Household Cleaner. I would test a spot, because dyes, paints and synthetic hemming materials might be affected.

So you know...The Thieves oil always breaks down synthetic materials. That's great for our bodies - but can be problematic with materials sometimes.

If I were doing this for my own sails, I would mix the Thieves Household Cleaner with Borax and soak the sails for at least an hour. However, they should always follow manufacturer suggestions and take common sense precautions in order to avoid damaging the sails. Since we don't have experience with using the Cleaner for Sails, we cannot advise you with any confidence in that regard.

  3. That is intense that you guys can attack the idea of mold removal with eighteen different questions. This tells me that you guys totally know your stuff. Just because someone has mold, doesn't mean that the cause or the remedy is the same. I am grateful for all eighteen of these questions. Now I can really become an expert at diagnosing where the mold came from and how to eliminate it.
